NOTE: This position is funded through an external grant. Continued employment beyond the fiscal year is contingent upon continued funding.

THIS POSITION IS EXPECTED TO END ON 8/31/2026.

Position Summary:
The Talent Search Program Counselor will be highly qualified to provide services to student participants in partner schools. This position collaborates closely with the team and local schools to ensure grant objectives are met and align with the strategic plan of ENMU-Roswell. This position reports to the Director of Talent Search.

Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Regularly visit assigned schools to identify participants and provide individualized counseling sessions.
  • Promote Talent Search services through assemblies, organizational meetings, and individual and small group sessions.
  • Conduct individual and group meetings with participants to discuss post-secondary admissions and financial aid options.
  • Assist students with completing admissions applications, financial aid applications, scholarships, etc.
  • Provide ongoing financial aid and literacy information, along with personalized assistance to participants.
  • Coordinate guest speakers, workshops, and campus tours for Talent Search participants.
  • Oversee TS tutors hired at target areas.
  • Establish and maintain communication with institutional and administrative personnel/faculty, especially in the Financial Aid and Admissions offices within the target area.
  • Maintain communication with assigned partner schools.
  • Follow up on referrals made by target area personnel and schedule appointments accordingly.
  • Collect and input participant data into the database system.
  • Attend regional, state, and national conferences.
  • Stay informed about the current grant and its impact on duties and responsibilities.
  • Meet all expectations and perform other duties as assigned.
Requirements

Minimum Job Requirements:

  • Bachelor's Degree.
  • Two years of experience working with disadvantaged and racially diverse student populations.
  • Knowledge of postsecondary admissions and financial aid processes.
  • Ability to work with diverse age groups, from middle school through postsecondary.
  • Background similar to the participants served.

Preferred :
  • Master's degree in education or counseling.
  • Previous TRIO program experience.
  • Bilingual in English and Spanish.
  • Experience working with students in one-on-one and small group settings.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
  • Knowledge of personal and career assessment instruments.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
Working Conditions
  • The noise level in the work environment is generally moderate.
  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to use hands to handle or feel objects, reach with hands and arms, and talk or hear. The employee frequently sits and occasionally stands or walks. The employee may occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds.
  • Specific vision requirements for this position include close, distance, color, and peripheral vision, depth perception and the ability to adjust focus.
