Job Description

Our client, a global electrical power and advanced materials manufacturer, produces engineered industrial materials used across highly technical applications. The Bay City site supports graphite processing and related operations critical to performance, quality, and compliance. As production demands increase and modernization efforts continue, the organization is strengthening environmental, health, and safety governance at the site level. The EHS Manager will lead safety and compliance strategy for the facility, working closely with engineering, chemical process experts, and operations leadership to reduce risk, reinforce accountability, and ensure stable, compliant performance. This is an onsite leadership role reporting directly to the General Manager and overseeing a small EHS team responsible for housekeeping, containment, and site environmental control. The Environment This role operates in a hands-on industrial manufacturing setting where floor presence matters. The EHS Manager will spend meaningful time on the production floor partnering with: Engineering teams evaluating equipment and process changes Chemical and process experts managing material risk Production leaders accountable for output and quality Operators responsible for containment, housekeeping, and site control Success requires balancing real-time issue response with structured compliance systems, audit readiness, and longer-range safety improvement planning. This is a facility-based role in Bay City with no travel requirement. Key Focus Areas and What Success Looks Like Success for the EHS Manager includes: Establishing consistent, sitewide safety practices that reduce risk exposure across graphite processing and industrial operations Partnering closely with engineering teams to ensure equipment modifications, process updates, and facility changes meet regulatory and internal safety standards Strengthening OSHA compliance, documentation, audit readiness, and corrective action systems Improving training, hazard awareness, and operator engagement across the facility Leading and developing a 3–4 person EHS team responsible for environmental control, containment, and housekeeping Creating a more predictable, stable operating environment by reinforcing accountability at all levels This is not a maintenance-only EHS role. It is a leadership position designed to elevate safety performance and operational discipline across the site. Background and Experience 3–5+ years of EHS experience within manufacturing, industrial processing, or chemical-handling environments Experience working directly with engineering teams on equipment, process, or facility-related safety initiatives Practical knowledge of OSHA standards, risk identification, and corrective action implementation Experience leading or coaching frontline teams in safe work practices Strong communication skills with the ability to influence both technical teams and plant-floor operators The ability to balance urgent, floor-level response with structured compliance and improvement initiatives A Bachelor’s or Associate degree is preferred About Index Search Index Search specializes exclusively in executive and professional search for manufacturing, distribution, and industrial technology organizations.
