The demand surge across Europe/Asia has created one of the fastest-growing markets in defense. Sea Machines is at the center of this shift. With 200+ autonomous vessel deployments across the globe, we deliver field-proven technology that outpaces competitors while delivering reliability. We're expanding aggressively and looking for a high-impact communications leader who wants to shape the future of naval autonomy.

Role Overview:

The Communications Director is responsible for the strategy of Sea Machines communications and media outreach. This leader will craft compelling narratives that reflect Sea Machines' technological leadership, market momentum, and real-world impact that shapes perception in a rapidly evolving industry.

This role combines strategic storytelling, executive communications, media relations, and cross-functional collaboration to support key business goals including sales growth, recruitment, defense commercialization, and company expansion.

Key Responsibilities:

Strategic Communications & Messaging:

  • Translate complex technical concepts (autonomy, perception, AI) into clear, compelling content for Government stakeholders and policymakers.

External Media & Public Relations:

  • Build and nurture relationships with national, trade, defense, maritime, and technology press.
  • Pitch stories, coordinate interviews, and secure high-impact media coverage.
  • Prepare press materials including releases, executive quotes, fact sheets, and media kits.

Executive & Leadership Communications:

  • Support CEO and executive leadership with speeches, briefings, talking points, Q&A, and public engagement materials.
  • Develop thought leadership positioning that reinforces Sea Machines' authority in autonomy and maritime technology.

Marketing Integration & Campaign Enablement:

  • Partner with marketing, sales enablement, product, and business development teams to ensure communications amplify go-to-market priorities and customer success stories.
  • Help launch products and new offerings with coordinated multi-channel campaigns.

Internal Communications & Culture:

  • Manage internal comms to drive alignment, transparency, and culture across global teams.
  • Establish crisis communication protocols and messaging playbooks.
  • Act as a strategic advisor during reputation events, or emerging issues.

Requirements & Qualifications:

  • 7-10+ years of progressive communications experience, including leadership roles.
  • Proven track record of developing and executing communications strategies for complex, technical, or B2B technology organizations.
  • Experience in autonomous systems, robotics, SaaS/technology, defense, or maritime sectors strongly preferred.

Skills & Competencies:

  • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills; storytelling strength across platforms.
  • Media relations expertise with existing press contacts preferred.
  • Ability to simplify technical content without losing rigor or credibility.
  • Strategic thinker with strong project management and cross-functional collaboration.
  • Comfort with ambiguity and rapid change in a high-growth environment.

Education:

  • Bachelor's degree in Communications, Journalism, Marketing, or related field required.
  • Advanced degree a plus.

Personal Attributes:

  • Mission-driven and team-oriented.
  • Bias for action, proactive problem solver, and high integrity.
