Overview Performs a wide range of clerical duties in support of the assigned patient care department and monitors cardiac telemetry and hard‑wire monitored patients in a centralized location. Monitors a specified number of patients with ordered pulse oximetry and capnography. Qualifications High School Diploma or equivalent Obtain certification in Heartsaver or Basic Life Support within 30 days of hire date Successful completion of a Basic Dysrhythmia course (to be completed as established by department; adminstered at Department level) Graduate of Technical Education Program or Medical Assistant Program (preferred) Core Duties and Responsibilities Performs cardiac monitoring for all telemetry and hard‑wire monitored patients on applicable units, identifies changes, addresses alarms, and reports the patient’s cardiac rhythm and any life‑threatening events to medical and nursing staff. Analyzes, interprets, and measures ECG strip waveform displays; documents each patient’s rhythm and changes according to guidelines and protocols. Utilizes Wave Strip Export to upload patient rhythms/events to the corresponding chart in EPIC. Monitors pulse oximetry for the assigned patient population as applicable. Uses Epic/Telemetry Dashboard to ensure accuracy of Admissions/Discharges/Transfers. Assembles a telemetry pack, battery, and electrodes for nursing staff; ensures inventory of clean packs and available batteries. Monitors equipment and assists with troubleshooting malfunctioning equipment with proper notification to appropriate personnel. Greets and assists with admitting functions upon patients’ arrival to the department. Performs routine clerical operations to ensure smooth communication and functioning, including intrahospital communications, admit/transfer/discharge/follow-up information, mail distribution, and maintenance of office supplies. Organizes and maintains patient records and department records to ensure accurate documentation. Coordinates and facilitates ongoing communication to ensure efficient intradepartmental and interdepartmental operations. Welcomes visitors and responds to requests for assistance or information in a courteous manner. Assists physicians and others by providing requested patient or department routine information in accordance with hospital policy on Release of Patient Information. Coordinates and facilitates timely intradepartmental and interdepartmental transportation of patients. Facilities With Specialty Accreditation Requirements Completion of annual required education related to specialty accreditation as defined by accreditation standards. Training may be completed through CBLs, trainings, in-services, and competency validation.
